Mini Warming Basket [Red/Aqua]

Before the 1980s, women in rural Senegal made baskets using cattail stems and natural rope from trees. These ropes were difficult to work with and could only produce the same designs. With the arrival of a plastic prayer mat factory in 1982 the weavers switched from the use of natural rope in holding the cattail stalks, to using thin strips of plastic to hold the cattail stalks together. With this new technique, they are now able to make baskets in different colors.
AWiGT works with hundreds of women in the Thiès region of Senegal to support their livelihood.
